Why Arcadia?
Meaning
While choosing a name I wanted something that emulated my love for the outdoors. I came across the word arcadia and loved it! The word itself has a few meanings. First, it is a place, a beautiful mountainous region in Greece. This area is known for being a utopia where the people are in harmony with nature. Arcadia is also a noun and means “a scene of simple pleasure and quiet” or a “place offering peace and simplicity.”
Pacific Northwest
I feel so fortunate to have grown up in the Pacific Northwest. I was born in Portland Oregon but lived in a small town in Southern Oregon for most of my life. I moved back to Portland for Interior Design school and decided to stay. I have always loved the many shades of green that seem to define the pacific northwest. I especially love the beautiful firs, soft textured mosses, and flowing ferns. Recently I have also fallen in love with the mountains, especially here in the Tualatin Valley. I love admiring them from afar or while being immersed in them. I find their colors and textures inspiring. Our warehouse is in Sherwood and on my drive, I get the most breathtaking view of Mt. Hood. I also love the mountainous views driving over the bridges of downtown Portland.
Home Staging
Peace and simplicity are a few of the characteristics I love about nature. These are also characteristics that I want to implement in my designs. When you walk through one of my stages I want you to feel an essence of peace and serenity. I like to reflect the neutral colors and textures found in nature. Bringing the outdoors in brings in a grounding, calming effect I feel we all sometimes need.
Personal Significance
Long after we had named the company, I was looking through some old photographs and realized that after my husband and I had gotten engaged on the Oregon Coast, we watched the sunset at Arcadia State Park. I had already loved the name, but now it even has a personal significance to me, making it that much more special to me.
