Picture this…
You have been needing a change and have decided to sell your home. You have decided on a location in Portland, OR and have hired a realtor to help you find your new home. Your real estate agent has set up two property viewings for you.
Property A (Without Staging)
You pull up to the first property. It’s a nice house but the first thing you see is a mess. There are overflowing trash bins, a front porch swing with ripped cushions, and tools and toys scattered about. Your mind seems to focus on these negative aspects and misses the potential curb appeal this home could have.
As you step inside there is clutter everywhere. Every surface has items on it and there seems to be way more furniture than is necessary. The walls are full of art and family photographs. You find it hard to look past their belongings and picture yourself in this home. The walls are painted a yellowy beige and there are harsh, obnoxious accent walls throughout the house. These are not colors you particularly enjoy and would not want in your future home. The furniture is dated, worn and mismatched. You can tell that they vacuumed and wiped off the counters, but you notice grime in places that have not been touched in years. The carpet is stained and dirty, and the home feels dated. While being in this home you feel anxious and overwhelmed. You feel awkward being in a stranger’s home.
Property B (With Staging)
You then move on to property B. As you pull up, you already notice a world of a difference. This home has a beautifully manicured lawn, a clean exterior and great curb appeal.
You walk through the front door and immediately notice how clean and put together the home is. It looks like a home from a magazine! The carpets are clean and look brand new! The home feels up to date and you love the light fixtures. It was repainted in a light neutral color which really brightens the space making it feel light and airy. The flows goes nicely from room to room and you understand every room’s intended purpose. The furniture layout and planning feels intentional and really pulls the space together. The rugs and pillows make the space feel warm and inviting. You can imagine yourself living here and making this place your home.
